SPIXII scoops double-win at TechPitch 4.5
SPIXII, an automated digital insurance agent, won both the judges’ vote and the audience vote at TechPitch 4.5 last Tuesday (12 July 2016).
“Digital customers are confused by insurance and don’t feel it’s transparent,” said SPIXII co-founder and CEO Renaud Million. “SPIXII is an automated digital insurance agent that integrates with the insurance company and social media sites.”
The judges voted CapTag Solutions– a smart label for bottles that will enable better inventory and brand tracking – into second place.
“We’re giving every bottle a digital identity,” said founder and CEO David Potter. “It revolutionises how inventory is tracked and increases the bond between consumer and brand.”
Gleat Technologies, an app that creates a social network through home dining, came in third. “People want more value out of a meal and want to feel closer to that meal,” said Reginald Torchon, co-founder and CEO. “Our patented, smart technology matches hosts and guests and fuels a better user experience.”
The other start-ups selected to pitch were:
- InQ.Social, a consumer research and online marketing platform
- LawXero, an online platform for legal guidance for business and lawyer match concierge services;
- WalletCircle, a platform that integrates into any ecommerce website and enables retailers to better engage with their customers, and;
- Wowse!, a dating-style app for the property market.
Opportunities to connect and network
Conceived, organised and executed by 2Pears, the team that creates opportunities and events to inform, educate and connect entrepreneurs, start-ups and investors in technology, the TechPitch 4.5 series of events selects 8 tech start-ups to present their business plan in three minutes to an expert judging panel and an audience of investors, potential partners, and entrepreneurs.
Held at Pinsent Mason’s City offices and chaired by TechPitch 4.5 stalwart Danvers Ballieu, COO of Privax, TechPitch 4.5’s panel of judges encompassed a broad range of skills and expertise across technology investment, legal, entrepreneurship, research, incubators and journalism.
–Hugo Pinto, Innovation Officer CoC, IBM
–Julian Saunders, CEO, PORT Tech
–Thilo Schneider, Partner, Pinsent Masons
–Danielle Sheerin, Traveltech Lab Manager, London and Partners
–Sabine Stork, Founding Partner, ThinkTank
–Alex Wood, Editor in Chief, The Memo
All judges praised the high calibre of the pitches and business models presented. Thilo Schneider of Pinsent Masons said, “The quality was exceptionally high.”
Meanwhile Hugo Pinto, Innovation Officer, IBM pointed out that whereas all the business ideas presented at TechPitch 4.5 were very solid, some needed to work more on the storytelling.
Alex Wood, founder and editor-in-chief of The Memo gave the evening’s keynote, sharing his passion for telling stories about new companies and ideas that are helping to make the world “more human”.
He explained why, despite the results of the EU referendum, the tech sector in London will remain vibrant. “In London we are building something so much bigger than SiliconValley – we are inclusive,” he pointed out after comparing the shocking number of homeless in San Francisco with the proportionately much lower number in London.
“What really warms my heart is that everything we’ve been through people still want to be here,” he said. “Diversity has always been one of London’s strongest points.”
The TechPitch 4.5 series of pitching competitions will continue in the autumn, encompassing all facets of technology, with specialisms in music, media and entertainment, fashion and luxe, and sport and fitness.
The winning start-up won a bottle of bubbly and a growth clinic with Netleadz, the digital marketing agency, to help build its user base, its audience and increase visibility, awareness and reach.
Additionally, Pinsent Masons, as part of its Bootlaw initiative, offers a consultation free of charge to each of the pitching startups to discuss their legal needs.
TechPitch 4.5’s supporting partners and sponsors include Bootlaw, Invesdor, Netleadz, TechMutiny, UKTI, MediaTainment Finance, and Privax Ltd.
