4.5 alumni Musicmetric bought by Apple
Huge congratulations to Musicmetric! The company has been bought by Apple for an undisclosed sum. Musicmetric provides analytics for the music industry and was one of the first start-ups to take part in the early 4.5 pitch training workshops. The company has also taken part in several Music 4.5 events, with co-founder Maria-Alicia Chang speaking at the first Music 4.5 Data is Sexy event in 2011.
Apple acquired Semetric which runs Musicmetric, as part of its plans to relaunch its Beats Music streaming music service later in the year, reports The Guardian.
Musicmetric was launched in 2008 and allows music labels to track sales data, BitTorrent downloads and social networking statistics for their artists. The platform is also expanding to YouTube videos, e-books, television shows, films, games and audio streams over the next few years.
In January 2013 Semetric raised £3m of funding.
